MEMBERSHIP
Joining the BCC
 in 2017

There are different forms of membership of the British Conger Club, which are explained on this page. If you wish to request membership form, please contact the registrar whose address is at the the bottom of the page. Alternatively you can print off an ONLINE MEMBERSHIP FORM of the BCC by following the details, also at the bottom of this page. However, before you do so, please read the different types of BCC MEMBERSHIP.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP

Anyone who likes to fish for Conger Eels, or who would like to, can join as an Individual Member. Individuals can apply for either FULL, ASSOCIATE, SENIOR, LIFE or S.T.R.A.P.S MEMBERSHIP or in the case of angling club it would be AFFILIATED CLUB MEMBERSHIP. The details of each type of membership are listed:

FULL MEMBERS
are those who have caught a Conger Eel above the relevant qualifying weight from the  Shore or from a Boat. These weights are detailed below.

In the interests of conservation, we do not insist that the Conger Eel be killed, but we depend on the honesty of the angler involved and we require the signature of two reliable witnesses. In the case of a boat-caught Conger Eel, we ask that one of the witnesses be the skipper of the boat.

FULL MEMBERSHIP is divided into MEMBERS & SENIORS(60+)

Qualifying Weights
Shore 25lb
Boat (Reef or Open Ground) 30lb
Boat (Wreck) 40lb

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

can join the club without capturing a qualifying Conger Eel, and can transfer to full member status when they succeed in doing so, at no extra cost. Associate Members are not eligible to vote at the A.G.M.

LIFE MEMBERS
are members, who prefer not to pay annually, but who have made a one-off payment fee.
Life membership is subject to the approval of the Management Committee and is not open to anglers under the age of 18.

PLEASE NOTE: There are new requirements for LIFE MEMBERSHIP since 1st January 2005. Members will only become eligible for LIFE MEMBERSHIP once they have paid annual subscriptions for at least FIVE YEARS.

There are two categories in the LIFE MEMBERSHIP, those who are LIFE MEMBERS (60 and under) and those who are LIFE MEMBERS(60+).

HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP
is only given to individuals who have given exceptional service to the club and is recommended by the Management Committee and approved by a vote at the A.G.M.

S.T.R.A.P.S.
is the junior section of the BCC (stands for "Supporting The Return And Preservation of Species").
It is open to any child between 6-18 years old.
While standard BCC rules apply for qualification for membership and winning of club trophies, there are also special awards given for other fish species. This is to encourage the development of all-round sea angling skills.
Junior Members also get a special embroidered anorak badge. For more information about S.T.R.A.P.S see the appropriate page on this site.

AFFILIATED CLUBS

Any properly constituted Sea Angling club or Association may become affiliated to the BCC. On payment of the annual fees, a special BCC tankard is given to the club to be used at the affiliated club's discretion.
There is an annual Affiliated Clubs Boat Championship, in which clubs are invited to send two-man teams to represent them.
We try to arrange this at different ports each year and welcome any club to act as host. There are also monthly awards for the heaviest Conger Eel submitted by a Member of an Affiliated Club, even if the Club Member is not an individual BCC member.
